Okemah, Oklahoma, population 3100, is right on Interstate -40, about 70 miles east of Oklahoma City. The Indian word Okemah means a “place high-up” or an “important person”, and was the name of a Kickapoo Indian Chief. Okemah is the hometown of famed folk-singer, Woody Guthrie.
